Terry and I started the Southwest Journal in 1990 in our basement, never dreaming that the business would grow to include four publications. We have a wonderful staff and we all pride ourselves on providing outstanding news and information coverage for our readers. As for me, I'm an old-house nut with the 1916 arts and crafts home to prove it. I share the house with husband Terry, 21-year-old daughter Zoe, a field spaniel named Django, another named Emmet, Spike the bengal cat, and large piles of reading material.

I like the newspaper business. It’s fun working with business and community leaders who recognize our contribution to the community. I also enjoy time with my family, and I fly small airplanes and play jazz piano whenever I can.

Before those jobs, I interned for the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Duluth News Tribune and the Star Tribune’s Washington, D.C. bureau. Besides journalism, I’m into long-distance running and kayaking in the summers, and on occasion, making bundt cakes.

I was born and raised in Minneapolis and remember taking field trips to the Foshay Tower, which at the time was the tallest building Downtown. Most of my “free time” centers around my two kids and their sports.
Job duties include: Overseeing the production department
The production department is basically in charge of all aspects of creating the pages of the four publications. That includes designing and placing the ads, laying out the editorial content, preparing the final pages for printing and playing basketball on a mini hoop. OK, that last one's not really part of the deal, but it does keep me relaxed.
I enjoy spending time with my beautiful wife Heidi, three-year-old son, one-year-old daughter and pooch Jovie. During the fall and winter it's all about watching the Vikings and keeping an eye on my fantasy football team. During the spring and summer it's golfing and heading north to the cabin.

I have recently returned to Minneapolis after a three-and-a-half-year stint writing for my hometown newspaper, The Free Press of Mankato. You might see me riding my bike around the Uptown area, sometimes with a bag of groceries balanced on one knee (it takes practice). I like to see live music and check out new restaurants, but when I’m not out and about, I’m usually reading or trying to put a dent in my ever-growing Netflix queue.

I recently returned to Minnesota after spending the past two years in Wisconsin, reporting for the Wausau Daily Herald and interning at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. I covered city government and environmental issues in Wausau and received awards from the Wisconsin Newspaper Association for investigative and environmental reporting.
I live in the Crocus Hill neighborhood of St. Paul. I enjoy reading, camping and following the Minnesota Twins. On warm days you can find me canoeing on one of the Southwest lakes.

Although I live in the Twin Cities, Mankato will always feel like home. A few years after high school, I stared into a campfire in South Dakota and decided to go to art school. Less than two months later, I was a graphic design major at The Art Institutes International Minnesota. While attending AI Minnesota, I worked at TGI Friday’s -- which is where I met my husband. Yes, I wore flair… and I liked it!

I grew up on a farm in southeastern North Dakota and attended Minnesota State University Moorhead. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design, I moved to the Twin Cities to see what else the world had to offer and the rest is history. In my spare time you can find me hosting dinner parties, sorting through the mountain of magazines in my living room, digging around my garden, or researching the next great event I will force my friends to attend.
I was born and raised in Southwest Minneapolis and after high school spent over ten years in Crested Butte, CO where I was employed in various trades (carpentry, tile, and electrical) while skiing and biking as much as possible.
I moved back to Southwest Minneapolis in 2006 with the birth of my son Levi (6) who now attends Burroughs Community School. Once Back in Minneapolis, I worked in construction and real estate before becoming a small business owner and operating 2 Dunn Bros Coffee shops in Southwest Minneapolis. After the birth of my second, Phoenix (3), I transitioned to work for the Southwest Journal, which I had been reading myself since moving back.
I have found it to be a natural place to work, since I get to work with other small business owners in my community. Having been a small business owner for a number of years, I find that I can relate very well to the needs and struggles of the small business owners in Minneapolis.
I enjoy being a part of the community paper that gives us so much information about our community and the neighborhoods that we call home.

Born and raised in Indiana, I graduated from Purdue University with a management degree and then moved to Minnesota. Much of my previous work experience was marketing positions in large corporations. Working at MPP has been a welcome change. I like to spend my free time golfing, biking, camping and walking my dog Luna. I reside in St Louis Park with my husband and we have two sons in college.
After taking almost a year off to raise my {first} son, coming to work for Minnesota Parent was a natural fit. I am a perfect example of a Minnesota Parent reader which helps me relate to our advertisers. I love working with people and am passionate about helping small businesses grow and succeed. A St. Paul girl at heart, I am now learning my way around MInneapolis {and trying not to get TOO lost!} In my days off I enjoy spending time with my husband Brian while we wrangle our highly active one year old, Ethan and never tiring pup, Tucker.

I grew up in South Dakota where it snows more and it's colder. Not sure why people complain in Minnesota. On the weekends I love riding my bike in rural Wisconsin and smoking meat for hours and hours until it falls apart, then I serve it to my friends. I have a dog.

Like Django, I'm from Saratoga Springs, New York. I spend most of my days sleeping, but occasionally get up to find treats and beg for attention. I hear that I'm a pretty sweet guy, and judging by the way the women around here look at me, I think I'm pretty cute, too. I'm learning how to walk on a leash and spend a lot of time watching Django's butt. He's a good big brother.
By the way, I don't faint every time I see Django, but he's a great role model for the second best guitar-playing dog in the world.

I’m originally from Saratoga Springs, New York, but I’ve lived in Minneapolis for most of my life, which is tough as I prefer a warmer climate. ‘Seek the sunspot’ is my motto. I spend as much time as possible in one of the city’s wonderful dog parks playing my favorite game of ball, with my own modifications: Chase the ball, bring it back, dig a hole, put the ball in the hole, lie down in the hole. What a great game. It just cracks everyone up.
Anyway, the best part of working at MPP is the attention. I get more strokes from the folks around here than I know what to do with. Sometimes I have to remind people that I need my 18 hours of sleep a day.
Okay, back to bed for me.
