Internship Programs
Internship Program basics Minnesota Premier Publications is an award-winning company committed to community and street-level journalism. Our publications include the biweekly Southwest Journal, the biweekly Downtown Journal and the statewide monthly publications, Minnesota Good Age and Minnesota Parent.
The internship program at MPP offers college students the chance to work on these publications and gain a variety of experience, preparing for careers in journalism, graphic design and sales and marketing. Some of our interns have gone on to do great things — including becoming full-time staffers here. Applications are accepted at all times throughout the year. All internships are unpaid.
Internship requirements A minimum time commitment of eight hours per week is required of students; 10 hours per week for interns at the Southwest Journal and Downtown Journal. Knowledge of Macs is helpful but not essential. Intern hours are flexible and can be worked around school and work schedules. Internships are unpaid and academic credit must be secured. Students must arrange for school credit through an advisor or professor. MPP Internship Program Partners: There are many valuable partners involved in making the MPP internship program a success. The Minnesota Newspaper Association has worked with MPP and awarded the Southwest Journal and Downtown Journal a grant for a full-time summer intern. The Pohlad Foundation has also worked with MPP in sponsoring high school interns. In addition, the colleges and universities that work to coordinate the internships and intern evaluations are also key players. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Design Internships Graphic design interns will assist the Creative Department in the development of ads and other promotional materials, in addition to participating in brainstorming sessions and publication critiques.
